Initial Business Card ideas

So here is a fun idea for my business cards for Second Life. I wanted the cat to be iconic, and having these little guys sitting up by the cash register would look great. The font I've chosen here is Futura, which I would also be using on the letterhead. Thoughts, suggestions? I'll be bringing this in to class tomorrow so people can get a better idea of how readable it is in person. Final stock and print quality will be much higher, though.

D-Day: Tomorrow!

OK guys, this is it! Hope everyone is ready and excited for critique tomorrow! Thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far. It's been a rough few weeks trying to figure this one out, and I'm so grateful for all who've given me their opinions and advice. Look forward to seeing you all in the morning!

Logo Color Craziness

So I'm still having a tough time deciding on a final color palette. My first choice is still the teal and orange (top left), but I'd like to see what other people think before making my print for class on Monday.

An edited version of the previously horizontal logo design. Not my favorite of the bunch, but it may merit revisiting.

A couple of new ideas I've been toying around with. Not final, polished versions mind you. Whatever I decide to use will get tweaks and possibly be completely different in color.

A Change of Pace

So this idea popped into my head and I thought I'd give it a shot. This is just a quick mock up in one color to get my general idea across. Thoughts, suggestions?

Good grief, more sketches!

So here are a few more concept sketches for the logo. I can't believe I'm still doing these! No idea why I'm having such a hard time with this assignment, but at this point I could really use feedback. I may try taking a few of these into Illustrator and start playing around with colors. That might also spark something new.

So here is the latest version of the logo I've been working on, as well as a few color variations. I'm still not really sure where I want to go with color, except that I want the dog to remain white and the cat to be a color. So far I've been leaning more toward these more intense colors, but I'll also try some more muted shades to see how they look.

Some inspiration for the new direction I'm taking this logo. Hipster dogs and cats! There's a fine line between cheesy and cool with this idea, and hopefully I can pull it off.

Last Semester Highlights

From top to bottom: Two different logos from GRD 3000 (because I loved them both and couldn't choose just one), GRD 3000 final packaging project, board game design final from Illustration, and poster from GRD 3150.

Font Options

Here are the main fonts I'm considering for the logo. I feel like serif fonts are generally more warm and friendly than sans serif, which will work well with the message I want to convey.

Overthinking the Obvious

So I went out for a bit and sat outside to clear my head. I haven't been enjoying this logo redesign and I finally realized why: I wasn't being true to myself. I like cartoons and fun, sketchy animals. I was trying too hard to make the logo design 'serious.' However, with it being based around animals and thrift, why not just have fun with it? Be playful? I think I'm going to do some fresh sketches that aren't based on my previous attempts and see where I go with it. Above are some examples that I like from around the web. The top two, hootie and Loozafox, seem the most like the direction I'm thinking about going in.

Second Life sketches

I've been carrying my sketchbook with me everywhere I go, which has resulted in a lot of ideas that feel different. I seem to keep coming back to the dog and cat profiles though, so I'll probably end up using that idea in some way. Up to about 55 sketches so far, and I feel like it's alllllmost there. Just not quite. A couple of my pages of sketches were pretty rough (a.k.a. terrible), so they didn't make the blog. I don't know if anyone will read this before class Monday, but if so I'd love to get some feedback on how you think this is progressing. The sketches are in order, with the final two pages being more along the lines of what the final product may look like.

Inspiration and initial thoughts

Redesigning the Second Life logo has been a challenge. If it was simply a thrift store or just an animal rescue, that would make life so much easier! But the best progression and growth comes from challenge, right? Here are some of the images I've been using as inspiration. I want the logo to showcase and cat and dog in some fashion. Most of my sketches so far have been leaning in the silhouette direction.
